Review: Max's Wine Dive (Montrose), Houston, TX
Max’s Wine Dive (Montrose)

I love it when restaurants have the name’s of people. It just sounds cool to say you are going to hang out at Max’s. Max just sounds like a cool guy. A guy that knows a lot about wine and food. Ok, it’s the chef, Michael Pellegrino who knows about the food. He was first the executive chef of the Washington Ave. location… and now this location… and the spot next door! I’m never disappointed with his creations.

My favorite dish: Pulled Pork Stuffed Peppers with chipotle aioli! The pork is tender, the aioli is spicy, and it’s perfect to share or eat as your meal. And if I’m ever in the mood for it… they have gluten-free fried chicken! While there aren’t a TON of gluten-free options on this menu, they mark the ones they do have so they’re easy to see, and I love that.

Atmosphere: This location has a patio! Your view is the valet stand, but it’s still a patio. You may even catch a peek of the sun setting over a building. But beware of cigar smokers. The inside is dark and lively. Just how I like my wine bars to be!

Service: I am always thoroughly impressed by how knowledgeable and friendly the staff is here (and the Washington Ave. location). If you sit at the bar, they give you tastings. And if you engage them, they will tell you everything there is to say about a 2012 malbec. Sitting outside I experienced the same attentive but laid back service. And our server gave us suggestions and his opinions on menu items, which I appreciate.

Don’t miss their happy hour from 4-6. $5 wine and specials on small bites.  They also do brunch Friday – Monday!

Products that we know you’ll surely love!
